Topic: Planning and delivering speeches In order to effectively plan and deliver a speech the following steps must be taken 1. Topic and Time: Choose something that you are interested in. 2. How long do you have to talk for? Think about how much time you have to deliver the speech 3. Audience: Think about who you will be talking to and who will be judging. 4. Subject and purpose: What is the aim of your speech – to persuade, inform, entertain, etc. Brainstorm ideas note them down. Add in personal stories you can add to make it more interesting. 5. Research: Not just internet, newspapers, magazines, library, family friends etc. 6. Structure: Ask yourself the question – what is the first, last and in between things I woukd like to talk about in my speech. 7. Beginning: Keep it Brief, capture the attention of the audience and establish the subject and purpose of the speech. Add your personality and make it unique. 8. Middle: Sets out your ideas, share your research, includes examples to support your topic. Work on having a powerful statement to lead into each new point / paragraph. 9. End: Short statement relating back to the topic and sums up the subject and purpose of the speech. Make it brief, but memorable. 10. Practice: By yourself first and then with friends and family. Time it and edit your content so it first with the time restraints. 11. Palm Cards: Make palm cards for key points only, this will help if you forget or get nervous during the speech, to remember where you were. There are different types of speech styles here are a few:
