What are kilometres?

A kilometre is a metric unit of measurement equal to 1,000 metres, it is represented
 by the symbol km.


Converting between units

The basic rule of converting is that:

If you need to convert from a larger unit to a smaller unit, multiply. 

If you need to convert from a smaller unit to a larger unit, divide.
