Grade 3: Science (2020 -2021) Week 4 – Lesson 1

Grade: 3
Date: October 2020
Subject: Science
Topic:  The Foods we Eat

Foods

Everything  we eat and drink is called our diet.
There are  six food groups namely Fats, Proteins, Vitamins,
Carbohydrates, Legumes and Vegetables.
When we eat food from the different food groups,
 we get a balanced diet.
No food by itself has all the nutrients that are needed
for full growth and health.
Therefore, it is important that we eat foods from
the six food groups each day.
The body needs energy to pump blood to all the body parts.
The skin, muscles, bones, heart and other organs
are kept healthy by the food we eat.
The stomach and the  intestines need extra blood
 to help with digestion.
Activity:
  • Why does the body need energy?
  • List three (3) organs that are kept healthy by a balanced diet?
  • Name two (2)  areas of the body that needs extra blood.
  • How many food groups do w have?
