Subject: Mathematics
Topic: Linear Equations
As we discovered in our last lesson an Equation is a number sentence joined by an equal sign and the expression on the left is equal to the expression on the right.
An algebraic equation is one in which the equation has a letter symbol in place of a number on one or both sides of the equation.
In this lesson we will learn to solve an equation that uses addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
a + 3 = 10
In this equation we are adding so in order to find the value of a we subtract 3 from both sides.
b – 4 = 8
In this equation we are subtracting so in order to find the value of b we add 4 to both sides.
5y = 25
In this equation we are multiplying so in order to find y we divide both sides by 5
x/2 = 4
In this equation we are dividing so in order to find x we multiply both sides by 2
