Grade 4: Science (Sept 2020 – July 2021) Week 3 – Lesson 2-Living Things

Grade: 4

Date: September 29,2020
Subject: Science
Topic: Classifying things as living and non-living

Living Things
In order for us to classify something as living,
it must meet certain criteria.
It must be made of cells, feed, respire, grow and
develop, use energy, respond to stimuli and move.
While many things in the environment may meet one
or more of these criteria, a living thing must
meet all of these criteria.
Humans, insects, animals and plants are living things.
Non- Living Thing
Non-living things exist in nature or are made by living things.
They do not move by themselves, grow or reproduce.
There are three groups of non-living things: -
  • Solids -  stones, books
  • Liquids -  water, oil
  • Gases -  Carbon Dioxide, Oxygen
Here is a video that sums up living and non-living things
