Week 5 – Lesson 1 (Energy)
Grade: 5
Subject: Science
Date: November 2020
Topic: Energy
The Sun is the main source of energy for the Earth and its life forms. Energy is the ability to do work. Energy exists in various forms and can be obtained from different sources. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be changed from one form to another. Energy conservation is important. Energy is stored in the food we eat. This form of energy is called chemical energy. Chemical energy is also in gasoline motorists put in cars to make them move, and in the charcoal or propane gas we use to cook our food. Food is the source of chemical energy that your body uses to do work. Sources of chemical energy such as food, charcoal, gasoline, and propane gas are called fuels. Since fuels are used up to release energy, they have to replace. This is why we need food every day, and motorist needs to keep putting in his or her car. The energy acquired by the objects upon which work is done is known as mechanical energy. Any moving object can be a source of mechanical energy. The images below shows the different forms of energy that exists.
