**Topic – Types of numbers**

```
WHOLE NUMBERS ------- the set of numbers beginning with zero and going
to infinity. (0, 1,2,3,4,5.......)
COUNTING NUMBERS---- the set of numbers beginning with one and going
to infinity. (1,2,3,4,5......)
ODD NUMBERS----------the set of numbers which are not exactly divisible
by two beginning with one and increasing consecutively by 2 going to infinity. (1,3,5,7,9......)
N.B. If n is an odd number then the next odd number after n is n + 1
EVEN NUMBERS--------- the set of numbers which are exactly divisible by 2
beginning with zero and increasing consecutively by 2 going to infinty. (0,2,4,6,8......)
N.B. If n is an even number, then the next even number after n is n+2
PRIME NUMBERS-----the set of numbers which have only two factors including
one and the number itself. (2,3,5,7,11,13.........)
COMPOSITE NUMBERS-----the set of numbers which are NOT Prime numbers.
SQUARE NUMBERS------the set of numbers you get as a result of multiplying
a counting number by itself. (1,4,9,16,25........)
N.B. ---1x1=1 2x2=4 3x3=9 4x4=16
SQUARE ROOT-----the square root √ of a NUMBER is a value that can be
```**
multiplied by itself** to give the original NUMBER. .eg. square root of √16=4,
square root of √9 =3, square root of √25=5, square root of √144=12
Note: 3*3 = 9, 5*5=25, 12*12 = 144
