The Earth is shaped like a sphere. Think of a cricket ball and that’s the shape of the earth.
-
Earth is the fifth largest planet in the Solar System and the third planet from the sun.

Earth takes 365 ¼ days to make a complete revolution around the sun. Earth also spins (rotates) on its axis every 24 hours.
-
The axis is an imaginary line that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole.
-
Earth has a slight tilt at an angle of 23 ½o .
EARTH’S Atmosphere
-
A layer of gases surround the earth and this is called the atmosphere. It is sometimes called Earth’s blanket because it protects the earth from getting too hot or too cold.
-
The gases that make up the atmosphere are:
-
Nitrogen (78%) – Most Abundant gas in the atmosphere
-
Oxygen (21%)
-
Carbon Dioxide (0.03%)
