The Amerindians were already living in the islands of the Caribbean when Christopher Columbus first landed.  These include the Tainos or Arawaks, the Mayas, Caribs, and the Aztecs.
The Amerindians are believed to have come across the Bering Strait when it froze during the ice age. They were in search of food and their search took them to the Americas. Hence the name Amerindians.
The Amerindians who settled in Jamaica were called Tainos (Arawaks).

The Aztecs settled in Mexico.
The Mayas settled in Belize and Guatemala.
The Caribs settled in the Lesser Antilles.
