Parts of a Flower
Flower – reproductive part of the plant which makes seeds for the plant.
Consists of the male reproductive parts and the female reproductive parts
Male reproductive part – Stamen
Female reproductive part – Pistel
Stamen – The male reproductive pourt has a long stalk called that filament, and at the top of the filament is a sac with pollen grains called anther. (Pollen grains are like sperms in animals).
Pistil – The female reproductive part has a slender stalk called the style and at the top is the stigma and at the bottom is the ovary. The ovary bulges and contains seeds called ovules.
Each ovule has an egg cell, similar to female egg cell. When the pollen grains and egg cell join they fertilize and a new seed is formed. For fertilization to take place pollination takes place first.
Sepal – supports the flower
Petal – attracts birds and insects.
