Magnetism
Magnetism
This is the invisible force of attraction or repulsion between objects made of iron, steel or nickel.
Magnets have a North Pole and a South Pole.
Like poles repel and unlike poles attract.
The region of force around a magnet is called the magnetic field.
The North Pole of a magnet always points to the north of the earth.
The South Pole always points to the south.
What is a compass?
An instrument that helps people use the earth’s magnetism to find direction. A compass needle behaves just like a needle magnet and always points to the north of the earth.
